okey is one of the most famous board games in many countries and is part of the family of rummy games. it is actually very similar to rummikub another well known board game. the tiles and boards are exactly the same as in rummikub but the rules differ.
the main goal of okey is to draw and discard tiles in order to collect sets or runs.
sets
a set can consist of either three or four tiles of the same number but with different colors. so a red a black and a blue 10 would form a set. but one red and two black 10s are not a valid set.
runs
a run is formed out of three or more consecutive tiles of the same color. so a black 1 2 3 4 is a valid run. tiles with the number 1 can be used in two ways here. it can either be the lowest number in a run as in the example above. but it can also be used as the highest number after 13. which means that 12 13 1 is also a valid run. however the 1 can only be the lowest or highest number and not stand in the middle. which means that 13 1 2 is not a run.
to win in okey you need to form all of the 14 tiles on your board into sets and runs. not a single tile can be left out.
alternatively you can win by forming seven pairs. a pair consists of two identical tiles for example two black 9s.
so your strategy to win is to discard tiles that you don t need and draw the ones that can help you forming runs sets or pairs.
okey just as many other other games from the rummy or rummikub game family are very popular in different countries and are more often than not played in coffee houses or open spaces rather than at home.
they are the very essence of what makes games so important bringing people together to spend a couple of hours playing with family friends or even strangers.
have fun with okey the beloved rummy game for your smartphone and tablet.
